The Latest Solutions to Improve Air Quality In Your Home

Are allergies ruining your everyday home comfort? Do you believe there may be sources of air pollution within your home?

While not everyone who is constantly surrounded by airborne contaminants experiences symptoms, indoor air pollution can have both short and long-term effects on your health. Fortunately, there are several ways you may be able to address this issue. In essence, it all comes down to your indoor air quality (IAQ) and what factors are at play.

What Causes Poor Indoor Air Quality?

Indoor air quality encompasses the condition of the air in your home, so there are many components at play here, from common household products to ventilation issues. Volatile organic compounds, better known as VOCs, refer to dangerous gases that have adverse health effects when inhaled. Paint, highly concentrated cleaning products, aerosol sprays, pesticides, building materials, and certain solvents are examples of common VOCs found in homes throughout Greensboro, NC, and the surrounding areas.

Ventilation is yet another area to consider when it comes to indoor air quality. Smoke can contribute to a lower level of IAQ, so it’s important to have proper ventilation or crack open a door or window to keep fresh air circulating.

How Do Air Conditioning and Heating Systems Factor In?

Most homeowners don’t realize the role that cooling and heating systems play on indoor air quality. If these units are not maintained properly, they don’t filter out air pollutants as efficiently. As a result, the air will not be processed appropriately as it passes through the unit before entering your home.

New Air Cleaning Solutions

When you find yourself stuck and in need of an efficient air cleaning solution, turn to your trusted heating and air conditioning specialists in Greensboro, NC. Here at Go Green, we offer some of the best IAQ products on the market for your home.

Air Filtration: On A Larger Scale

An air filtration system removes unwanted airborne particles and pathogens to keep your home’s air clean and fresh — similar to an air filter but on a larger scale throughout the home. To be more specific, these can help trap dust, hair, pet fur, pollen, mold spores, and more.

Note: For best results, use HEPA air filters throughout your home. These catch particles in three different ways (diffusion, impaction, and interception) to bring you better air quality.

Everything You Need to Know About Air Scrubbers

Then, there are air scrubbers. These offer a different approach to air purification. Let’s take a closer look:

Why Choose Central Air This Spring?

Summer is right around the corner, and if the mild winter was any indication, it’s going to be a hot one. For people without central air or with older units, dealing with the heat can be a real concern. Fortunately, the market offers a lot of choices for AC units in Winston Salem, NC that are both highly efficient and low maintenance.

Central air works by cooling the air throughout your home at a central location. Refrigerant gas is compressed and pumped through the system into your house; the gas absorbs heat from the air and lowers the temperature inside your home. Some systems can use the existing ductwork in your home to circulate the air into different rooms, while others do not.

Central Air Offers Many Efficient Choices

When deciding on a central air system for your home, you can choose from one of many different models, making it easy to find one that’s a good fit. For older homes, a ductless system is often a good option. These systems can save you square footage in your home, as well as the cost of installing new ducts.

If your home already has ductwork — as some do for furnaces — then you might want to consider a system like a heat pump. Heat pumps use a reversing valve to change the flow of refrigerant gas through the system. This allows you to pump either hot or cold air into your home, eliminating the need for a separate furnace and air conditioner.

Improved Air Quality in Your Home

Central air conditioning continuously circulates air throughout the different rooms of your home. While it does this, the air is pulled through a filter that cleans the air and removes impurities like dust, dander, lint, and other allergens. Some filters are even designed to remove microscopic allergens and other particles from the air in your home.

If you want to clean the air in your home even further, you have the option of installing an additional air cleaning component to your system. A global plasma system (or GPS) is a great example of this. The Global Plasma System is an advanced technology that uses bi-polar ionization to kill mold, bacteria, viruses, and odors in the air.

Cleaner in-home air can improve your life, and more efficient technologies and installation methods can significantly offset the cost. Anyone interested in AC unit replacement in Greensboro, NC should reach out to Go Green Plumbing, Heating, and Air today!

How Do I Know if My Sewer Line is Clogged?

Are you unsure whether your main sewer line is clogged, or it’s just a regular clog within the drains of your home? As the leading providers of clogged sewer line services in High Point, NC, and nearby regions, we can confirm that there are three symptoms of a main sewer line blockage:

  1. Multiple drains have backed up
  2. Water is overflowing into different plumbing fixtures
  3. There is drainage in your sewer cleanout

Now, let’s look at these symptoms in more depth:

Multiple Backed-Up Lines

Clogs in the main sewer lines eventually back up through plumbing fixtures around the home. If the pumping issue is with a smaller branch line, the problem is likely isolated to a single appliance.

Home sewer systems have similar setups to trees: with multiple drain lines stemming from different water appliances, all feeding into one main ‘trunk.’ When a clog appears in the main ‘trunk,’ the water draining from the smaller lines cannot empty, and eventually back up.

If your bathtubs, toilets, sinks, or showers are making a gurgling noise, then we recommend calling a plumbing professional to undertake an inspection.

Water Overflows into Various Plumbing Fixtures

If your main sewer line is blocked, water will start to overflow from plumbing fixtures throughout your home. This happens as a result of water being forced back up smaller drains. It’s worth remembering that overflowing water will seek the lowest point, so basement water fixtures or bathrooms on your ground floor will be the first to flood.

To test for water overflow, you can:

  • Flush your toilet, then check to see if water gurgles or rises from your shower or tub drain.
  • Cycle your washing machine, then look for evidence of overflow in your toilet or shower drain.
  • Switch on your bathroom sink, and check to see if the toilet water bubbles up or rises.

If you notice water overflowing after any of these tests, contact a plumbing professional immediately.

Drainage in Your Sewer Clean Out

A circular concrete or plastic lid should mark your sewer cleanout with ‘Clean Out’ written on it; however, homes built before 1978 might not have one.

If you do have a cleanout, remove the cap. If water is flowing from the pipe inside or standing in the pipeline, it’s a clear indication of a sewer line clog.

Why Chemical Drain Cleaning Isn’t Actually Worth It

The water in your sink or bathtub isn’t draining quickly anymore. It seems like you had just treated it with chemical unclogger the other day, and yet here we are again, frustratedly standing in a shallow pool of water while we shower or waiting for the sink to empty to continue with dishes. Ironically the problem really lies in the fact that you’re using chemical cleaner in the first place. While it seems like it’s common knowledge to run to the store and pick up a bottle of chemical unclogger whenever our drains stop performing well, that practice does far more damage than good. Here are three reasons why you should stop using these products.

  • Chemical cleaner doesn’t actually unclog our pipes – The one thing such chemicals are advertised for is unclogging our pipes, so it’s surprising to learn that they don’t really do that at all. The way chemical unclogging agents work is that the corrosive liquid bores a hole in whatever disgusting amalgam of materials that has formed a watertight barrier in our pipes. However, a hole is simply that: a hole. The slime and debris that blocked the water in the first place are still entirely present with the exception of a small hole that’s been burned through it for water to get through. Only a professional cleaning will actually remove all the excess material from your pipes and get them running like new again.
  • It’s corrosive – The same solution that bores that hole through waste within the drains also can corrode the pipes they’re meant to clean. Regular use of such products will eventually cause irreparable damage to pipes and sewer lines that can lead to disastrous consequences. If you’re seeking sewer line repair in Oak Ridge, NC, our experts have the know-how and equipment to offer a lasting solution.
  • It’s bad for YOUR health – We all probably know that plumbing liquids are a health hazard, but when we’re fixated with the concern of getting our drainage working to some degree again, we don’t put much thought into it. The chemicals in such products can cause lasting damage when they come into contact with human skin, and the fumes can potentially cause damage to the lungs and linger even after flushing out the drain with water after the suggested waiting time.

If your pipes are in need of purging or your sewer lines are in need of repair, Go Green Plumbing, Heating, and Air offers a wide array of services to get your home or business back to peak infrastructural efficiency. We do it all, from pipe cleaning to energy-efficient tankless water heater installation in High Point, NC. Don’t find yourself without working drains or hot water during the winter months.
