When and How to Fertilize
Spring is a great time to think about fertilizing your lawn to ensure you have a lush, thick green carpet in the spring and summer. So, what do you need to know about your options? First, you’ll need to make some decisions about what products to use – liquid versus granular. Liquid fertilizers will give you a quick burst of energy, but have to be reapplied frequently. Granular fertilizer on the other hand will last up to 12 weeks, but will take longer to show results. Depending on what your goal is, you will have to select one type.
Next, wait for it to rain, or commit to completely watering your lawn for several days. Granular fertilizer that is applied without being watered in can burn a lawn. Water your freshly applied fertilizer well. You may also want to consider a weed control product in the spring to prevent broadleaf weeds from ruining the look of your lawn. They can easily be applied in early spring and reapplied later in the season to control weeds.
